Dozens of American students are visiting Beijing from May 17 to 23, as part of a program organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University. The program aims to help the students experience Chinese culture and technology, and continue the friendship between the people of both countries. CGTN's Zheng Chunying reports.

The electric Xiaomi SU7 attracted the attention of dozens of US students on Friday, as they visited the headquarters of the Chinese tech giant.

Students also got the chance to experience other products of Xiaomi, including smartphones, tablets and so on.

The tour is a part of a program called Discover China. Hosted by Beijing Foreign Studies University, it's designed to welcome US students to an integrated course on China Studies with topics covering diplomacy and foreign policy, history of China's international exchanges, economy, culture and society, and more.

Their journey comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping made an announcement last November, inviting 50,000 young Americans to China over the next five years.

Noting the fact that this year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the visiting students told me they're finding it rewarding to see the world from a different perspective and to come to China, to walk around and hear people's stories, really gives them a grander idea of why relationships matter.

ZHENG CHUNYING Beijing "During the rest of the trip, the group will visit universities and other tourist attractions including the Summer Palace, and the Temple of Confucius – where they are expected to explore more of both Chinese traditional and modern culture."
