Students attend Future Green Energy Leaders Summer Program in Beijing

"Eleven students from The University of Tulsa are participating in the Future Green Energy Leaders Summer Program hosted by China University of Petroleum, Beijing (CUPB). This is the first time CUPB has offered this program to its partner universities.

UTulsa students, alongside those from Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, are spending two weeks in Beijing, engaging in lectures on national energy policies, initiatives, and recent developments. They also are visiting local green energy-focused industries and research labs. The program includes dialogues with their Chinese peers on climate change and global solutions, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field of green energy.

History Professor Thomas Buoye and Vice Provost for Global Engagement Vivian Wang joined the program’s opening ceremony in Beijing.

Buoye is accompanying the graduate and undergraduate students throughout the trip, ensuring they are fully engaged and facilitating their cultural understanding and reflective learning. The UTulsa students are seeking degrees in a variety of disciplines, including electrical engineering, psychology, computer science, Chinese, and energy management.

CUPB is a top national public Chinese university ranked No. 98 in Asia, according to Times Higher Education. It has been a key partner of The University of Tulsa for more than two decades. UTulsa will welcome three exchange and dual-degree students from CUPB this fall.

“We look forward to the insights and experiences our students will gain from this prestigious program and the continued collaboration between the universities in promoting sustainable energy solutions,” Wang said.
